good but needed work
I have had my Boonie for about a year and with a little work it has been great. The dome of the hat is waterproof but not the brim or stitching resulting in water coming through around the base of the dome. I used diluted silicone sealant to treat the stitching on the dome and to coat the top of the brim focusing on the stitching. The dilution is one part GE silicone II to two parts mineral spirits or Coleman fuel. Apply with a cheap foam brush by daubing along the stitching or brushing on the brim. The coating is very thin and mostly soaks in. The brim will still get saturated after a prolong exposure to rain. If it gets soaked too quick, apply another sealant layer.

Great Protection from the elements
Just finishing up my first winter with this Boonie. The wide brim is great and served me well, keeping drips and runoff safely away from my collar. This is part of the ECWCS. It has no vents and is a relatively thick layered material, so if your looking for a sun shade another hat is a better option. All and all though this piece was a great addition to my winter gear I'm sure to using for years to come.

Good hat with 1 short coming
This hat does do its job well it keeps the rain off my head. I've taken it to many countries and it has been rained on alot. While it does keep the rain off my head the brim of the hat gets soaked and when that wet brim is hit by wind the wet brim hits you right in the face reducing visibility.

Good, but not great
I cannot speak as highly of this hat as many of the other reviewers. I do really like the size-adjustment shoe-lace and the big wide brim. Plus, the light ACUPAT-color reflects solar radiation nicely. But, I found it to be relatively non-breathable and HOT--too hot for the humid NC summers. I'd deal with this if it repelled water better but my hat tends to absorb more water than I think it should in moderate rain. Granted, it does repel water better than a standard boonie and maybe I'm asking too much of it (or maybe I got a dud). Either way, it is a good hat that works well when it's not blazing hot and humid and/or a heavy rain...but I find myself grabbing another boonie if the conditions are not just right.

It has it’s flaws
BRIM IS HUGE!!! Had to remove the stitches, shorten the brim and sew the edging back. Other than that, it’s a great rain had.

Let it rain!
The hat may be a couple of bucks more, or you may have to wait longer for it to come in stock. Let me tell you, it's worth the wait...if you've ever been to England, you'll know we get some SEROIOUS rain! Where has this hat been all my time in the UK?
Don't even think twice, if you are lucky enough to be in a rainy climate or expect to be - pack this baby, it won't let you down!

Okay I know the objective of original boonie hats was probably to keep ur head dry and sun off your neck but this one does it best. It was pouring last night and I wore it out three times and my head didn't have a drop of water on it. Very good hat for a very good price.

Light and breathable, and more room for one's head than standard boonies. I also like the wide brim.

Great water resistance
I aquired this hat about 3 weeks ago. I've used it on a rafting trip that some friends and I went on and just this past week at Summer Camp with my local scout troop. This hat is great!!!! The water just beads right off of it. It keeps the sun out of your eyes and off your neck. There was just one thing that I discovered about it that I didn't like. Most boonies have air vents of one form or another. This one doesn't for some reason. With that one and only gripe aside, I still must say that it is a great hat.
